PREDICTIONS FOR 26 Oct 2011 10CM FLUX: 143 / AP: 010

COMMENT: Solar activity was low, without any C-flares during the last
24 hours. Within the next 24 hours, there is a large probability for
C-flares, with a slight chance for an M-class flare. NOAA Regions 11324

and 11330 are the most likely sources of flare activity.
The ACE spacecraft observed an interplanetary shock passage on October

24 at 17:48 UT, most likely linked to the arrival of a CME that occurred

on October 22 in association with an eruptive filament. ACE registered

increases in wind speed, temperature, and density. Solar wind velocities

increased from a steady 350 km/s to 525 km/s and are currently around
450 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) increased to above 20

nT and its Bz component was negative between 20h and 1h UT, reaching -20

nT a few times. An associated geomagnetic storm lasted from October 24

around 20h UT to October 25 around 6h UT. It reached major storm levels

from 1h to 4h UT, and even one hour of severe storm around 2h UT.
Currently, geomagnetic conditions are quiet, but the IMF is about 22 nT

and Bz is positive, which means that further geomagnetic storms are
possible within the coming hours if Bz goes negative again. From October

26 onwards, quiet geomagnetic conditions are expected.

TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 076, BASED ON 05 STATIONS.
