COMMENT: Eleven active regions are currently reported on the Sun.
C-class flares were frequently observed during the last 24 hours in
Catania sunspot groups 61, 62, 72, 74 and 75 (NOAA ARs 1289, 1290, 1295,

1296 and 1297, respectively). The strongest one was the C9.3 flare
peaking at 11:30 UT yesterday in Catania sunspot group 62 (NOAA AR
1290). More C-flares are expected to occur in these groups, with a good

chance for an M-class flare. After the arrival of the interplanetary
shock (02:55 UT at ACE, 03:05 UT at SOHO), the interplanetary magnetic

field magnitude in the sheath reached 13 nT, with direction alternating

between northward and southward. Currently the IMF is persistently
directed southward, its north-south component Bz is around -6 nT, and
the solar wind speed is around 540 km/s. This resulted in minor
geomagnetic storm that is ongoing (two 1-hour intervals of K = 5 are
reported by Dourbes). The ICME arrival is expected to occur later today,

with K index possibly reaching 6.

TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 111, BASED ON 11 STATIONS.
