COMMENT: The flaring activity of Catania sunspot group 26 (NOAA AR
1169) decreased. Only B-class and weak C-class flares were observed in

this group during the past 24 hours. However, this active region
maintains beta-gamma configuration of its photospheric magnetic field,

so an M-flare is still not excluded (although unlikely). Due to the
position of the Catania sunspot group 26 close to the west solar limb,
a
strong CME originating in it may lead to an energetic particle event at

the Earth. Another sunspot group (Catania number 29, no NOAA number yet)

emerged from below the photosphere yesterday. It already produced a C1.4

flare peaking at 09:04 UT today. More C-class flares can be expected
from this active region. The Earth is currently inside a slow (around
360 km/s) solar wind flow with average (5-6 nT) interplanetary magnetic

field magnitude. We expect quiet geomagnetic conditions.

TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 022, BASED ON 11 STATIONS.
