Here are a couple of articles. The first is a 5Mb slide presentation
about the current solar minimium. Certainly parts of it suggest we are
in for a hard time radio wise and also about risks to the electrical grid.

The second article is below and refers to the current climate cooling.
I'll bet that got your attention !

Why Should We Be Concerned about the Next Cold Climate Era?

This new era called a 'solar hibernation' or 'grand minimum' is caused
by a repeating 206 year cycle of the Sun. SSRC Research shows that it
will bring a long period of cold just as it has done before every time
this cycle 'turns over' from its global warming phase to its global
cooling phase.
*
It is expected to last for approximately 22 years with the coldest
temperatures to be seen approximately five to seven years either side of
the bottom year of the cycle in 2031 and have temperatures on the order
of that observed during the Dalton Minimum (1793-1830). We have already
seen the early signs of the new climate with record cold winters
globally for the last three years. Additionally these cold climates have
a characteristic of reducing temperatures in a highly variable manner
with extremes of both hot and cold with a general trend of quickly
reaching a deep colder level that lingers on for ten or twenty years.
That does not mean we can wait to prepare. Now that the hibernation has
begun, it is possible for these unusual variations in temperatures to
strike with little warning. We should not be surprised to see occasional
severe crop damage and recurring food shortages in many nations as a
result. As most are aware the United Nations says that about one billion
people struggle to find food each day. Our situation in the US is more
precarious than most know. We have 43 million of our roughly 305 million
citizens who are on food stamps and at least 14% of Americans themselves
have a difficult time each day to find enough food.
The SSRC forecast for this next solar hibernation is similar to the last
such event which was called the Dalton Minimum ( 1793-1830).
Comparisons to that time show that there is a high probability of
substantial social, economic and political turmoil worldwide as a result
of massive crop losses from the coming cold weather. This was noted in
the peer reviewed paper posted on line in January 2008, most of the
conclusions from which had already been sent to US government and media
outlets in early 2007 by the SSRC Director John L. Casey. (See RC Theory
page). The SSRC believes this damage to the world's agricultural systems
will be sufficient to create conditions that could lead to the world's
worst subsistence crisis in recorded history. This same food crisis
occurred during the last hibernation, though with significantly fewer
people to feed. Historian John D. Post called that time"...the last
great subsistence crisis." During the Dalton Minimum there were 1
billion people on Earth. There will be 8.2 billion by 2030 and no longer
do most people live on farms in the USA with ability to feed themselves
directly. As of this decade, most people in the US live in cities. That
means that here in the US, most citizens are completely dependent on the
constant flow of food through the food distribution networks that have
beeen perfected over the past century.
However, we have reached a point where most food produced in the US is
quickly put on ships to overseas customers or processed, packaged and
moved into local food stores for immediate consumption. Most of these
regular foods on store shelves have relatively short "Best By" dates so
they must be eaten soon to guarrantee freshness. Few foods have storage
shelf lives beyond a year or two and of course produce, dairy, and fresh
meat items have lives of less than a few weeks or days in some cases.
The unbelievable use of food for fuel via corn ethanol where we now use
about half of all our corn for fuel has created a 'designed-for-disaster
scenario.' If a Dalton Minimum class cold strikes the midwest corn and
grain belts we could see not only a food crisis but also a major fuel
crisis. Unfortunately, all of these and other food network issues have
given us a subsistence status of being one bad harvest from an
historic North American food catastrophe. And if there is a catastrophe
here it is going to be much worse in those countries who have always
been heavily dependent on the US and Canada, especially for grain
shipments. It should be pointed out that the SSRC forecast is for a
Dalton class solar hibernation. Some respected scientists say it will be
a Maunder class event which of course would be far colder for longer and
would have the power to reshape the nations of the world much less cause
a Biblical scale food calamity.
How soon will we see these dire effects of the new cold period? The SSRC
predicts the first possible time frame for an instance of large scale
crop damage is during the record drop in global temperatures predicted
by the SSRC to take place between June 2010 and November-December 2012.
(See press release 2-2010). Unlike the false forecasts of the manmade
global warming fraud we won't have to wait to the year 2100 to see if
the theory is right. The RC Theory has already been proven and its
predicted effects are now evident. The weather just gets colder from
here on out with each passing few years.
This is the nature of the threat that the SSRC sees during the new
climate era that has just begun. The obvious message here is that we
need to prepare as best we can. The SSRC will do all it can to spread
the word about this new climate period and its ill-effects. We have been
the leader in the US since 2007 via Director Casey and since the SSRC
was activated in January 2008. We will continue to pursue the SSRC Mission.
