Ok re the Government subsidies but, wotif a change of gov. decides
not to subsidise? That is on at the moment, due to the neccessity to help
the thousands of victims from the massive floods and cyclones!
Also what is the life of solar cells? No doubt a replacement won't
be subsidised. Are they insurable from acts of god, hurricanes etc mmm?
Now re saving money by installing such systems, how do the power
providers see it? At one stage a provider, would not give you off peak
rates, if you went solar.
Also there were incentives to use more electricity grid supplies, as the
more one used, the cheaper the rate. After all electricity is a money
making concern and solar is competition.
We received a 50% only subsidy, when we installed our split system, hot
water, solar assisted, setup. But who pays to replace it? Are the
collectors and sensors compatible with a replacement tank and circulation
pump. The old Rheem tank, had a 10 year warranty but the latest solar tanks
have only 5y.
Don't think that solar hot water is totally cost free, as the daily sun
lately, is on a 50% daylight / overcast activity and worse with winter
looming. This necessitates switching on, the offpeak2 electrical boost.
But there are now rumblings, that electricity suppliers will do away with
off peak, no doubt to offset losses by solar.
Also many roofs are so orientated that the fitted solar panel may
only receive good strong direct sun in the morning or afternoons.
Life certainly wasn't meant to be easy?
