COMMENT: Catania sunspot group 59 (NOAA AR 1121) turned back into a
quiet region, no flares occurred during the past 24 hours. No M flares
are expected during the next 24 hours. There is however a small chance
for a C flare. A filament erupted from the north-east on Aug 8 around 15
UT, the associated CME that is observed in LASCO is not expected to be
geoeffective. Geomagnetic conditions were mostly quiet during the past
24 hours. The wind speed was increased from 280 to 380 km/s due to the
influence of a CME that erupted last week. The IMF strength increased to
10 nT, but remained northward during most of the time. No strong
geomagnetic consequences were observed. At present the solar wind has
returned to quiet levels again and is expected to remain so.
TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 020, BASED ON 10 STATIONS.
