COMMENT: Solar activity is on the increase. A new active region emerged

yesterday in the North-West quadrant (Catania #87, NOAA11081) and
quickly produced an M2.0 flare on 00:55 UT and an associated EIT wave
and CME. New activity is also approaching from behind the East limb,
with also a slow limb CME observed over the last 24 hours. New C flares

are likely to occur over the next days, with a chance for other M flares.

The solar wind monitored at Earth by ACE remains slow and weakly
magnetized which keeps the geomagnetic field at quiet levels. However,
a
large trans-equatotrial coronal hole is now about to cross the central

meridian and should start to influence the Earth by June 15. Since the

last solar rotation, it has grown significantly from a couple of
separate holes located at mid-latitude in each hemisphere. We can thus

expect a larger geomagnetic disturbance from the associated fast solar

wind stream than on previous rotations.

TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 032, BASED ON 12 STATIONS.
