COMMENT: A weak shock was observed in the solar wind by the ACE and
SOHO/CELIAS instruments at L1, yesterday afternoon 14:45. The solar wind

speed jumped up from 280 km/s up to 370 km/s and also the solar wind
density increased. The origin of the event is unclear but is possible
related to a weak eruption and CME of last Saturday afternoon (Oct 27).

The last ACE measurements suggest that the interplanetary magnetic field

is southward at -10nT since several hours but the validity of the
measurement is dubious (density <1). If the measurement is correct, the

active geomagnetic conditions will probably persist for the rest of the

day. On the longer timescale (by Nov 3) we expect the influence of the

coronal hole, now at central meridian, to push geomagnetic activity
again upward. For all these reasons, we halt the SIDC ALL QUIET ALERT.
