I have assumed for years that Winpack just won't handle accents, partly
from reading messages from German stations where the use ae,oe,and ue for
the umlauted a,o, and u.
I presume they do that because the rest of the world doesn't use the
German code page. The most modern was, as I said, the fact that, if I hit

Alt Gr + 4 I don't get the Euro sign. I can get the UKP if I use Alt + 156
No! I just tried it in my type ahead window and the whole msg
disappeared.
Lets try Shift 3 the UKP key, no that gave me a hash.
That is the reason why other European stations use the above, allong with
Eu and UKP. The only monetary sign we can guarantee at WW is the $US,

What idiot introduced ASCII anyway ?
Older computers would handle all the currency symbols like the 17 EU
currencies which have been replaced by the Euro a sign often used by the
rest of the 25 countries in the EU.
I am O.K with e-mails and Skype IMs, even my mobile 'phone will text the
UKP and Euro signs, no problem.

Ergo, if mobile phones can evolve, why can't PCs ? running packet,
especially Winpack ?

It isn't just me,mate.
