Re wiping a hard disc, in earlier days delete or format only deleted the
first letter of any word, so one could review and substitute a suitable
letter to read it again.
Then again some formats programs offer a Military wipe.
Microsoft XP format does I think a simple format. However WIN 7
format, does it in 3 stages, over a longer period, which may more
efficiently remove data.
Another sticky situation rears its head, with the newer SATA H/D's as
against the now almost obsolete but wonderful to use, IDE drives. The Sata
has a partitioned information sector of about 84k, that does not get
erased with a format?
If one gets to corrupt this, I then find that the H/D is almost useless
for further work. Sometimes with these tricky SATA's, this small
partition insists on being C drive, making ones installation D drive?
Because of this I trashed a new 500 gig drive and put in an IDE,
on the only one IDE socket, now common on most Mother Boards/Main Boards.
The burner stayed as a Sata however!
Maybe we have an IBM expert to sort me out.
