We have a programme in the UK called The Gadget Show. It has probably been
exported by now.

I was watching the above today and part of it included taking someones HDD
from his laptop and using a firm to read it despite it's passwords and
deleted files. I think we all know how this is done, our police do it if
they think someone has downloaded anything suspicious.

However, it brought back a memory of a utility which was once shown on TV
where the user could press two or three keys simultaneously and completely
shred all the disk's contents. It did take several minutes even though a
HDD back then was usually measured in MB rather than GB.

This led to a clean disk with no info just as if the computer had a new,
unused disk.

The only time I have ever done this was by using the FORMAT command from a
floppy when I used to play around with the early flavours of Linux.

I wonder if anyone else remembers this programme ?

I would certainly not be stupid enough to even attempt to d'load anything
illegal or enter one of oour government secret sites from my own PC - just
curious. Does anyone remember this utility and what it was called ?
