Merton E. Johnson, 86, of Sycamore, Ill., passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2009 at DeKalb County Rehab
& Nursing Center in DeKalb. 

Born Dec. 23, 1922, in Chicago, he was the son of Arthur O. and Mimi (Mattson) Johnson. 
Merton first married Beverly A. Lund in 1946 in LaGrange, and later married LeVon A. "Bonnie" 
Hinkle in 1992. Merton was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII. He was a 
Real Estate Broker for thirty years and later was employed at General Motors for 18 years.
Merton was a member of First Lutheran Church of Kirkland, past commander of Riverside American 
Legion Post 488, and a member of both the Kishwaukee Amateur Radio Club and the National Rifle
Association. 

He is survived by his wife Bonnie, of Rockford; two sons, Craig (Stephanie) Johnson of Epping, N.H.,
and Mark (Claudia) Johnson of Shabbona; one grandchild, Gregory Johnson of Epping, N.H.; and 
several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, in 1991; his brother
Oliver Johnson; and his sister, Fern Kohlman. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at the Anderson Funeral
Home, 2011 S. 4th St. in DeKalb with Rev. Carl Rasmussen of First Lutheran Church of Kirkland 
officiating. 

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at the Anderson Funeral Home. 
Interment will follow services at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb. 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in memory of Merton E. Johnson in care of the
Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, DeKalb, IL.
