Hi Bob we have had the same thing for years here in the UK.In my area, the
local translator' is vertically polarised so as not to campete with the
more distant main Tx whic is 20 miles away and is horizontally polarised
even on UHF a hangover from the days when it was VHF (Band III) and even
earlier when it was Band 1, around 47MHz, when AEs used to droop when
horizontal so most of the houses were the vertical big H or X antennae.


Of course we know that horizontal gets further but that isn't the only
consideration. Anyone who works 6m should know all this and not ask you
silly questions.
