Where I am all TV is vertically polarised. One reason for this is that we
havve three whacking great hills in the middle of the city and the UHF
translaters' antennae are placed on the tops of the hills. That means all
the users in the city are line of sight to the TV antennae. The VHF
transmitters running high power from which the UHF translaters take their
feed are on a 1500 foot hill in Mt Barker 50 km north of this city.
However due to the hills in Albany the signals from these 100 kw
transmitters do not cover the whole of Albany. There are shados in many
places and also there are reflections from the two rocky islands about 9
miles off the coast to the south, hence the UHF translaters in Albany
itself.
I can get more details if anyone wshes. An amateur friend of mine is a
technician.
Cheers,

>One odd question though, are some still
vertically polarized or did they finally figure out horizontal has
greater range?
