Hi Pete and anyone else interested.
Yes. 720p is an option on my STB menu but I chose 1080 just in case.
Our area had the analogue signal from both the Winter hill Tx 20 miles
away and the local Pendle Forest Tx switched off quite some time ago.
The TV is about 2 years old and was advertised as 'HD ready, the Sagem STB
as I said is a recent replacement for the SD box which went bang.
The TV alone will tune through all channels right from VHF and UHF through
the Freeview channels and Freesat as well if I had a dish. I have done an
automatic rescan on the TV alone quite recently as well as letting the box
do the usual scan and selecting favourites.
I did think there were other channels which were HD besides BBC 1, 2 and
CH 4. There is nothing labelled 'BBC HD' on either. The only analogue I
pick up is from somewhere distant, possibly Emley Moor in Yorkshire as I
am in a very good reception aream even so the analogue channels it scans
are very noisy (about P2).
It is interesting that none of the other 75 channels I get seem any better
than the basic 4 so, perhaps I am not getting HD.
The Testcard 'W' on the 'BBC Red Button' Channel, which is now simply
press Yelloe - change channel and back then press Green twice, no numbers
as in G8MNY's bull, shows an excellent picture with the frequency gratings
all present, chroma and luma all O.K. yet, on some live channels I still
notice that diagonals have a 'staircase' effect - not what I would call HD
but I never believed the hype anyway.
Thanks again for your advice. I will scan manually for Ch 54 and see if I
can find a channel called BBC HD.
CUL.
