Hi Ian , and anyone else interested.

I assume that you are referring to FREEVIEW.
If your area is still transmitting analouge TV then the odds are that
there is no terestial HD TV in your area yet - there just isn't the
bandwidth to do it yet.
Our area has just had the digital switchover ( analouge switched off )
and has started the terestial HD service.
At present there are just 4 HD channels :-
BBC1 HD on channe1 50
ITV1 HD on channel 51
CHANNEL 4 HD on channel 52
BBC HD on channel 54

These all are on the same multiplex (RF channel)

All the other channels are in "standard definition".

More precisely "standard definition" is designated DVB-T and is MPEG-2,
where "HD" is designated DVB-T2 and is MPEG-4.

To get the HD and SD, your STB must have 2 seperate decoders built into it,
hence the STB with a DVB-T2 decoder costs a lot more.

A lot of the DVB-T (SD) STBs have a HDMI socket, but that does not mean you
will get HD TV from it ! The HDMI connection is there for the newer TVs that
don't have SCART and the HDMI connector is cheaper than SCART and takes up
less space.

The HD that is transmitted is in 720p, so setting it any higher does not
give you a clearer picture.

I notice a distinct difference between HD and SD.

I hope this info helps.

(still running an RF BBS - GB7DBY).
