Hello Warren and Ian, and ...and ..well if anyone is reading along.,

All these shows it seems were B&W TV fillers, and then came colour
depending on where one lived.

I think in a way M*A*S*H was supposed to be that anti-war show with
the material. Even the part where the camp installed a gun to shoot
down an enemy plane that seemed to come over every day to check on
them.

No Warren, same war really, and there were issues with Vietnam I'd
rather not get into.

You forgot the military advisor role played by Greg Boyngton
behind the scenes. I am sure he kept them very well on track
with his book, and I evened noted his rank on retirement.

Offered a job .... you play the role. James Arness played
a monster once...remember that flick?

Sorry Warren. "Silent Service" was not a BBC production ,but
an American series done to honour the many US NAVY submariners
that lost their lives during WW2.

I never saw it on PBS, but it was on the CBS station we got
from Buffalo NY. Every week the show dealt with a sub and
it's crew and it's fate.

Our PBS station is ch 17 WNED from Buffalo..but ID'ing as
being a Toronto station too, and participating in the Toronto
area whenever it can ...SO while carrying a US licence WNED
it draws it's support from Canada and the US.

Along with that PBS I get the C-Band feed on the satellite dish
so two locations to get PBS, or TVO our Ontario Educational
Channel.

What I like best about PBS or TVO Warren, and Ian, ..IS that
they both try their best when doing a show to tell it as it
really is. They are brutal on history. They tell both
sides so well, it just brings one back for more.

Since Ian answered you first Warren...so be it.

I do remember Victory at Sea. Still plays our TV service
here and usually seen in the month of November, or close.
Also seen War in the Air ... both are well done and...
of course after these shows, by less now is the accounts
from both sides of the conflict as the survivors are
dieing now of old age.

Ian, when I saw your closing comments of the show and look
out for the hun outta the sun, it reminded me of an article
I read here about a German pilot who was sent up to shoot
down a US bomber. When he got to the target, he found it
all shotup, heading the wrong way, and gunners dead and
the pilot just trying to stay flying....he motioned the
pilot follow him turning 180 degrees, and sent him home
over the channel to the US base in UK ... and also weny
home to report the Bomber was all shotup and went down in
the channel.....end of story.

By a querk of fate...whatever....these two pilots met after
the war in Canada. They were great friends, and I
heard about that and many more at the Legion. Also
found out too that some of the bomber crew survived.

Another show on TVO I liked was a BBC production called
"FOIL's WAR" I think that is the titled or I spelled
it wrong. FOILY's WAR... Anyhow...I enjoyed that
as well the occupation one about the Channel Islands.

Thanks Warren, and Ian ... you made the morning interesting.
