Thanks for the explanation of those wierd, horizontal AEs.

As for HDTV antenns, yes, we get the same thing. I once even had a man in
a pub with a roll of co ax complete with F connectors, arguing that it was
'digital' cable. After trying to explain that cable didn't care what sort
of modulation it carried and reminding him that I had spent over 30 years
as a TV engineer, he still stuck to his guns and insisted his cable was
digital. This was just after another self styled expert had tried to tell
me that the FM radio on my mobile phone was definitely digital even when I
showed him that the headphone cable doubled as an aerial and that the
channels on the dial were the Band II FM radio frequencies.

That was about four years ago. They can go out and by 'digital AEs' or '3D
TV AEs' for all I care, I won't argue.

To me it was ajob of work for which I had to pass several rather tough
exams, even going as far as building a (valve) TV set. It gave me a well
paid, easy job with company car and access to some very attractive
customers. I don't have anything to prove, especially to people who can't
tell me the difference between a Volt and an Amp and hav e never heard of
Ohm's Law.

Nobody plays ATV around here anymore. It was already on 23cm amd 3cm when
I was licenced. John G8MNY who puts out the bulls on ATV was head of a
very busy ATV group near London but that is over 200 miles away so I have
never met him.
