Sounds like unsound engineering to me,Warren.

You haven't got on to the subject of slot AEs yet. When CB was highly
illegal in the UK I made a slot AE out of aluminium foil as my loft wasn't
high enough for a half wave.

The big problem was attaching the inner and outer of the co ax to the
centre of the slot. No Al solder so it had to be paperclips and glue.
Worked quite well. Invisible to the authorities and, of course, vertically
polarised even though the slot was horizontal.

People I talked to many miles away accused me of using 'boots'. I didn't
tell them about the slot but told them how to make a 1/2 wave wire dipole.

Suddenly, signals all around increased enormously. Of course it meant I
had to go horizontal too - for a while.
