Hi Ian and all,
Just one correction, the NTSC system had the sound subcarrier at 4.5MHz,
not 5.5Mhz. There's some complex math involved with a bunch of long
decimals on the chroma burst frequency, that came about to make color
compatible with black and white. Everything is derived from the 15.75
(rounded off) H scan frequency.
I wonder if anyone has tried sticking those DVDs in a computer and
reading what files are on there. I have and figured out how selection of
various sub sections is made and what makes the player play files in
order, pretty neat stuff but WAY to complicated for my little pea brain.
Right, the Yanks weren't very good at TV but only because we couldn't
figure out how to get Walter Cronkite and the CBS News team to the moon.
Maybe you should have told them we didn't have Logie Baird to guide us.
