Hi Warren and all.

I didn't mention the fact that the main TX is H and at the top end of Band
V while the local 'fill in' Tx is V and at the bottom end of Band IV
because this may not be normal for the whole of the UK.
Yes. It is a combination of the two, where possible,

I quite inderstand why Bob doesn't mention circular and why G6KUI
mentioned " Is it RH circular or LH circular ?".

I do remember seeing on films from America, aerials on roofs which
appeared to be horizontal, dual bamd, trapped beams and wondered if they
could easily blow away in the wind. Perhaps thes are just down in the
'redneck' states or maybe I just see old films where the enormous AEs are
just part of the scenery along with bar room balls and close intermarriage
etc.

Hy there, Y'all, we got us a CONVOY.

Hi Ian and all,

I don't see what 6M has to do with TV other than the fact it used to be
Ch1 long since abandoned because of co-channel interference. I can't say
much about elsewhere but in North America the only thing vertical
polarization is used for is mobile communications for antenna
considerations.

Now you mentioned the local TV translator being vertical to avoid
competition with the main transmitter, no need for that here because
they're on different channels. That avoids a hodge-podge of antennas on
the roof where one will do and from an engineering standpoint eliminates
co-channel interference entirely and ther is plenty of spectrum to do it
in. As a matter of fact since the "big switch" we have plenty of "grey
channels" or unused spectrum so the FCC has reallocated it to two way
public service communications. That new 700MHz band sure is filling up
fast.
