Hi Pete and all,
The only federal laws regarding towers I know of not being a
communications law attourney have to do with height vs. siting and have
to do with land ownership air rights. Unless in an airport glide path
where height against distance from the end of the runway come into play
the limit normally is 200 feet HAAT. That's because the property boundary
extends 200' up, above that is FAA jurisdiction. One other thing, towers
>150' must be lighted and above 200' special permits are required.
Local ordinances vary widely, the one in West Creek where I used to live
makes ultimate sense. There is no limit on height but the setback from
the property line must at least equal the height of the tower so that no
portion can fall on a neighbor's property. HOA Nazis are a beast of
another color, not only do they hate antennas but everything about the
dwelling and property and even parking must conform to their Draconian
rules.
Boxes, pretty boxes
They're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
Back in the 50s Pete Seeger wrote a song about Levittown, Long Island and
it's only gotten worse.
Since you mentioned Britain and the Cold War days I may as well digress a
little. It's worse here, MUCH worse, I'm sure everyone knows about our
health care debacle. SO many countries have socialized medicine and it
WORKS WELL but not here where Capatalism rules to the point where now
insurance companies (HMOs) dictate the level of care a patient receives
and it's seldom up to needs. The short story is something that was never
foreseen but as expected, Cold War "socialism is BAD" propaganda come
back to bite America in the nether reaches.
