We have adopted British standards Warren? Lot of rot. Our TV service has
been different right from the kick off. I don't know what the standard in
the UK is as far as the arrangement for sound is concerned now but it
used to be completely different with a different sound frequency. Unless
it has changed to our standard we are still completely different.
Significantly while Asia and and Middle Eastern TV is available here on
satellite, British is not.
As for US standards I sent a friend in the USA a video CD a few years
back. She had to have it redone over there as your Never The Same Colour
would not handle it.
As for cross polarization it is not as easy as that either. When we watched
Ch2. here in Albany in the VHF band all Australian states had the ABC on
Ch. 2. In summer Ch. 2 from Adelaide used to push our local Ch.2 off the
air. We could watch Adelaide some days but not our own programme. To
overcome that (unsuccessfully) Adelaide used different polarization to
what we had here.
It is useless trying to compare what you have there and what the UK has
with what we have here. They are completely dfferent. From memory which I
think is still correct I believe we followed the French standard but that
may have changed now. I don't know.
Now we have all our channels as I said before on UHF translators with
vertical polarization. Now don't say that our authority don't know what
works best here because I won't believe you. The system is working well.

As far as us following US standards. No thank you. I will stay with ours
and with the Queen.
Cheers,

OK, Ian mentioned cross polarization to mitigate co-channel interference
and my response was we put them on separate channels. All things
considered it's my guess you follow in British footsteps, that is to say
adopted their standards as you have with so many things. You don't DARE
adopt US standards, THINK OF THE QUEEN!
