WELCOME!
Thank you for your interest in JNOS5:K3CHB-5, it has
been my obsession for some time now. Here is where
we are at so far.....
--Well we are on the air, It's ugly but its working.
The RF gateway started as a Wouxun HT w/ a 2m half
wave antenna. Seems to be working reliabily in the
charging cradle. In an effort to reclaim my tri-band
HT, we are now using a IC-28A set to low power. Still
using the same antenna indoors (for now).
--Currently linked and sharing node data with various
nodes using ax/udp, and ax/ip.
--NET/ROM is working. But not reliable for some reason(?)
I think it is my AX/UDP links that i salvaged from BPQ,
going to figure out another solution.
--This is now a HAMGATE (I think?) with a AMPRNet IP
address of 44.56.50.5, and encapsulation is done at the
linux kernel with N1URO's dotun script. So... I think
that's the gateway, 44.56.50.1? The configuration is
sketchy I have to use 2 interfaces. I have a slip interface
with a 192 ip for convential internet, and tun0 has the 44
ip to get on the amprnet. I mentioned this to N1URO, and
he says that I have a "serious problem", but I ignored his
responce cause it has been working, but I do attempt a
remedy every couple days. Learning TCP/IP networking as
we go...
--Thanks to N1URO the node now has a dns address of
jnos.k3chb.ampr.org, but I might ask him to change
it to just k3chb.ampr.org, or maybe figure out how to
redirect ports in linux. Brian has been a huge help,
and I honestly applaud him for dealing with me.
--Set up a command alias (URO) that telnets to N1URO's
uronode, (DX) for the cluster, & (RMS) telnets to Winlink.
--Was able to add Net40 HF like the BPQ32 node, turns
out I can use Direwolf for both systems! JNOS 2.0
has a AGWPE driver that seems to be working good
with Direwolf. But, I later reworked the connection
and used socat at the linux level to make the
connection with Direwolf. I also dropped the BPQ node,
--Seemed to work out the SMTP issues so the system is
is now sending and receiving messages reliably, and
forwarding is set up and seems to be working.
--Also set up some tcp permit/deny rules. Seemed like
my SMTP server and telnet server attracted some zombie
bad guys as soon as they went up.
--K3CHB-7 is no longer on the air, I felt silly maintaing
two systems that do the same thing, and BPQ32 got boring
fast. It is a GREAT, well written node/bbs that is rock
solid honestly, but I like to tinker, and once it is set
up your kinda done. Not only that, but as you explore other
stations, they all look exactly the same. It is probably
the same for JNOS, but there isn't as many.
So.... The BBS occasionally crashes, and when it is working
good I am unable to leave well enough alone, so sometimes
it is down. Just check back in 10 min, more than likely I
will have it back up.
Stay tuned, more progress to come!
