RAFARS PACKET NEWS LETTERS TO (QRT) END THIS MONTH AFTER 15 YEARS .
As from February 2013 The RAFARS News Letters will no longer go out on the
Packet Bulletins to RAFARS and NEWS to WWW/GBR.
This is due to Packet no longer being used in the Amateur Radio World for
News Bulletins because our PCs have taken over with emails and such like.
Packet is also not geared up to use the modern PC Programmes of today.
RAFARS very first Packet NL1 went out in Apr 1998 to 5 RAFARS Members. In
Oct 1998, NL6 was sent out, for the first time, World Wide to www as a
RAFARS Bulletin and a NEWS Bulletin. Since then News Desk has not missed a
monthly NL and only on one occasion did it go out 8 days late.
Thanks will be sent to the main sysops directly concerned over the years.
These were Chris GB7MAX in Wolverhampton, John GB7VLS and Roger GB7LDI in
Norwich who used to relay in the beginning to overseas BBSs links direct.
If ever G8RAF had problems at HQRAFARS Cosford, News Desk used to send out
the NL from G4PSH via GB7VLS Norfolk BBS to www.
The News Letter will, of course, continue to be sent out each month to our
RAFARS Web site, direct to Members by email (on request), via Royal mail
(SAE) and read out on the RAFARS National Net on the second Sunday of the
month at 1900hrs (local) by News Desk.
See also RAFARS Face Book, Twitter and Yahoo Group.

RAFARS 75TH ANNIVERSARY ON MONDAY 1ST OF APRIL 2013.
Next year RAFARS is 75yrs old. It would be appreciated if RAFARS members
make a big effort to tell the world by either putting on a SES or a write
up in your local Papers/Journals. Do not leave it too late, it takes at
least a couple of months to organise a SES and magazines (Radcom etc)
require 2 months notice which means you have only till the end of this
month.
RAFC Cranwell, RAF Locking and RAF Cosford, the home of HQRAFARS for some
part of the last 75 years, will be our main operating locations on April
1st. Anyone who puts a SES on the air for the RAFARS 75th Anniversary,
please ask all stations worked if they require a QSL Card or not, and the
system they wish to use; via the Bureau, via Services or direct by means
of a SAE. This will save lots of cards being destroyed. RAFARS will create
the cards once we have an idea how many cards need to be printed.
Do not forget to inform News Desk and AOTA (G4DQP) so that a list can be
produced of the SES expected to be on the Air during Bank Holiday Monday
1st April, or at other times that fit in with your year planner. Do not
forget to inform the RSGB RadCom editor as well.
Suggest we work HF on 80m and 40m as Primary bands and stick to the RAFARS
frequencies if possible.

RAFARS 75 YEARS LIST OF SPECIAL STATIONS ON THE AIR 1 APRIL 2013.

G0RAF RAF Waddington ARC Lincoln LN1 2BG 80 or 40m to help contact G0DBS

A COMBINED SERVICES NET ON 5MHZ RAFARS RNARS RSIGS.
Net on Sunday morning at 0900 local on channel FM 5.403.50 MHz USB.
Alternate frequency is FE 5.398.50 MHz.
The net is now Tri-service and Europewide. It is also hoped that the ATC
SCC and ACF will be able to join in once it has been authorised/cleared by
Cadet Radio Orgs and Ofcom.
The 5Mhz channels are limited to those radio amateurs who hold a full
licence and have the appropriate NoV. As from the 1 Jan 2013 you may have
to apply to Ofcom for a renewal NoV Licence due to 4 new regulations which
are
a) Antenna height must not be over 20m agl.
b) Maximum power: 100W (PEP) input into the antenna with the expectation
that this would not result in more than 200W eirp.
c) Restrictions on message content have been relaxed and must now be
consistent with normal Terms and Conditions of the Full Amateur Licence.
d) Maximum Bandwidth: 6 kHz (double side band).
If you cannot join us, please listen on the frequency and send a report to
Roy G0TAK g0tak@kencomp.net
