Hi Seth and the dimosaurs,
Dinosars use TNCs, packeteers use software. (;->)
Seriously, I cut my teeth on a 1270, no letter suffix so that somewhat
familiarity points to the modem, the very heart of a TNC. Listen closely
to a 1200bd packet burst and notice two modem tones, it's all based on
TTY or RTTY if you prefer. If you remember the old dial-up modems you'd
hear the same thing on a telephone extension. That having been said, the
modem isn't shifting tones as it should, can't pinpoint the chip, never
had a schematic. Well, at least I pointed you in the right direction so
when you locate the chip on the board I suppose you'll have to find and
canibalize or modernize, a computer to radio interface is easier to build
than fixing a modem out of production for years.
