Hello Linux Guru's wherever you may be :)
I'd like to see if I can solve an irritation involving USB port
reassignment which has plagued various, usually USB-Serial adapter
setups whereby occasionally, the ttyUSB port gets reassigned to a
different number....or a different physical port. Typically I'm
using a couple of different USB-Serial adapters with APRS or other
programs and abruptly I'm no longer talking to the serial hardware
and checking dmesg and lsusb I find that the adapter cable has disconnected
and reconnected (typical sketchy USB connectors I assume). This happens
usually in my mobile setups so it's likely connector wiggling is the
root cause. I would like to know if there's a config setting with either
Ubuuntu 18.04, 20.04LTS that can hard-configure a ttyUSB assignment to a
physical port.....and how to implement that.
What are you tinkering with?
