Cheers, Ray.
Thanks especially for all the URLs. I seem to rember people talking about
Xarpm and singing it's praise. I did try to install Linpac under SuSe
about 6 years ago but failed.
It was Synaptic, I saw the name fly past as it loaded.

I now have dual boot, defaulting to Win XP or select 'Ubuntu' then hit ESC
to put up a menu giving you various options including control line
processing.

Hitting 'standard launch' gives you a GUI. I have icons for Mozilla
Firefox and Thunderbird, both of which work well but a packet prog which
must have Telnet would be a nice option.

I also use BDM the download monitor under XP because I have a 40GB
download limit with Talktalk. It would be nice to find a Linux equivalent.

I am happy up to press. It found my printer and I tested it by printing a
test page, very easy.
I can select packages to download from the mirror and effortlessly decide
to put them on my desktop as icons. I found my sound card and all four
speakers as well as my webcam.

Compared to all the hard work and headaches, the incipient RSI and the
pain in the bum fron sitting peering at the screen for hours with the
early distros. This is a dodddle!

Many thanks to you and all the others who recommended which version to
try.
