Today - Saturday 5 June - I decided to attend the GB8KW SES at CVRS.
The event celebrates the work of Roly Shears G8KW and his KW Electronics
company (obviously).

The event took place in the CVRS shack (1st Royal Eltham Scouts) in Eltham,
South London.

Due to family and voluntary work committments I was only able to spend 1hr45
there but was able to note the following:

Present were the following: 1 KW2000B with Xlock VFO stabilisation, 2 KW1000
RF PAs, 1 KW600 PA, 1 KW Viceroy, 1 KW109, 1 KW107, 2 KW77, 1 KW Valiant, 1
KW Vanguard, 1 KW DECCA CAT, 1 KW Victor, 2 KW103, 1 KW Atlanta with
outboard VFO. There may have been other items but I didn't take
photographs beyound the list.

Also available were displays outlining the KW
story and an auction for a piece of memorabilia.

Two Codar AT5 TXs were also present.

I was able to chat with Lawrie G4FAA with whom I had agreed to meet to
arrange restoring my father M0WJW (ex-G8JSW)'s KW201 and Vespa Mk1 plus psu
which I tookwith me and which added to the different items for a period of
time.

The SES was active from what I saw on all normal non-WARC bands from
160m-10m and had resonant dipoles for 160-40m plus a beam at 40ft or so for
20-15-10.

It was good to see such well preserved vintage gear in working order being
used to run QSOs and to see the warm glow of valves and radios that had been
manufactured by hand rather than the black box radios we use now.

I also spoke with other club members including Bob Treacher M0MCV and
several G3, G4, G8, G1 and M0 calls in person.

Not wanting to disrupt the QSOs I did not operate under supervision being an
M6 or anything like that.

Hopefully my father's KW201 and Vespa will be able to be restored and can
make an appearance in a future year, perhaps with him in attention.

Worth attending for those liking vintage/valve/UK built radios. There will
be a further SES with regards to KW in Inverness in January - call GB2KW run
by GM3WOJ.
