Hi Paul and readers,
Ten metres (meters are on the radio, not the air .... ..) opens occasionally
and depending on propagation you'll get long haul or "short skip" even though
this solar maximum is like the old grey mare, she ain't what she used to be.
My experience over the years says rather often groups hang out on a
particular frequency using it like "10M CB" and when the band opens they're
joined by one or more DX stations for a rag chew. One in our local group
often sits in a parking lot here in town so that Uniden should serve well in
the mobile with a simple monoband antenna.
Forget the DX cluster, by the time a station gets listed the dog pile is well
underway. I much prefer to tune around and often come across a station
calling CQ and pounce before the rest even know he's there. I've had some
luck with calling CQ but not as good as with the tune and pounce method.
Oh how I long for the days before crappy consumer devices!
