YL-OM Contest
YLRL encourages Amateur Radio competition by sponsoring several contests, some open only to YLs and others which both YLs and OMs can participate in. Additional information about the YLRL Contest are listed below.
YLRL Contest Dates for 2009
updatedStarting in 2009, YLRL have reduced the number of contests they offer from 4 to 2. The YL-OM contest will remain as its the most popular while the Howdy Days contest that was held in Sept. has been eliminated. The DX YL to NA YL contest was combined with the YL Anniversary Party and will be held in Oct. In addition, SSB and cw/digital will still be scored as separate contest but the contest will take place over one weekend instead of having SSB one weekend and then the cw/digital contest on another weekend.

General Rules for YLRL Contests
1. Check to make certain you are sending logs to the CURRENT Vice-President.
2. Logs must be postmarked no later than 30 days after each contest ends.
3. Scoring:
* Phone and CW contests will be scored separately. Separate logs must be submitted for each contest.
* One point is earned for each different station worked on each band. The same station may be worked on different bands. In the YL-OM contest only, YLs count OMs and OMs count YLs.
* Multiplier will be the ARRL sections and/or DX countries, whichever is appropriate. Canadian provinces are counted individually. Multipliers are used only once on all bands when figuring the score.
* Contestants running 5W or less will be considered QRP and earn a power factor of 3. Contestants running 5W to 100W will be considered low power and earn a power factor of 1.5. Contestants running over 100W will be high power. If no transmitter power is listed on logs, no power factor will be given.
* Total scored claimed is calculated by multiplying the points times the multiplier times the power factor.
4. Logs:
* All logs must show the operator's ARRL section, VE province, or country to qualify for awards. Where applicable, logs must state whether or not the operator is a member of YLRL. For each QSO, logs must also state the power output. If you have 200 or more QSOs, submit a separate log for each band and submit a "dupe" sheet.
* Please type or print. If you print a log from a logging program or photocopy your log book, be sure they include all the required information.
* Logs must be signed and show claimed score. No logs will be returned.
* Entries in log must also show time, band, date and transmitter power.
5. Exchange: Station worked, QSO number given and received, RS(T) given and received, and section/province/country.

YL-OM Contest
SSB/CW/Digital: 1400 UTC February 13, 2008 to 0200 UTC February 15, 2008
ELIGIBILITY: All licensed men and women operators throughout the world are invited to participate.
PROCEDURE: OMs call "CQ-YL" and YLs call "CQ-OM."
OPERATION: All bands may be used except WARC bands. Net contacts and repeater contacts do not count. Participants may work only 24 hours of the 36 hours in each contest. Operating breaks should be indicated in the log
EXCHANGE: Station worked, QSO number, RS(T), ARRL section, VE province, or country. Entries in log should also show time, band, and date.
SCORING:
(1) Phone and CW will be scored as separate contests. Digital contacts (RTTY, PSK31, etc) count as CW. Score each band separately.
(2) One point is earned for each different station worked on each band; YLs count only OMs and OMs count only YLs. Add together the QSO points earned for each band.
(3) Multiply the number of QSOs by the total number of different ARRL sections/VE provinces/ countries worked. A multiplier is counted only once in each mode (ie SSB, CW).

AWARDS: Highest scoring YL, OM, YL group/club in SSB and CW will each receive a first place cup provided there are at least 10 valid contacts. The second and third place winners in each contest will receive certificates. The winner of the SSB contest cup is also eligible to win the CW cup. Certificates will be awarded to the highest scoring YL, OM, YL club/group of each U.S./province/country, provided there are at least ten valid contacts on the log.
DX /NA YL Anniversary Contest (combines the DX YL, North American YL & YL Anniversary Party Contest)
SSB/CW/Digital: 1400 UTC Oct 9, 2009 to 0200 UTC Oct 11, 2009
ELIGIBILITY: All licensed women operators throughout the world are invited to participate. YL groups/clubs may also may also participate provided the YLs operating are listed at the end of the log. Only YLRL members are eligible for the Corcoran and Hager awards.
PROCEDURE: DX YLs call "CQ North American YL". North American YLs call "CQ DX YL."
OPERATION: All bands may be used except WARC bands. Contacts with OMs do not count. Net contacts and repeater contacts do not count. Participants may work only 24 hours of the 36 hours in each contest. Operating breaks should be shown in the log.
