IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday October 29th, 2023
IRTS Officers Required

The Irish Radio Transmitters Society is looking for your help. If you are willing, and in a position, to advise or assist the committee in the process of reviewing and replacing our current insurance policy, please contact a committee member or the society secretary. This forms an important part of our member service, and we welcome the experience of our members in completing this process.

The IRTS is also seeking a volunteer to undertake the role of Youth Officer. The work the Youth Officer does is important in promoting the hobby to younger generations. Some responsibilities include organizing youth activities such as participating in YOTA contests and activities, helping coordinate JOTA/JOTI, and liaising with other youth organizations and radio clubs.

This role comes with detailed handover documentation and a supportive committee to enable the new Youth Officer to get up to speed quickly and continue encouraging youth in our hobby. Anyone interested in taking on this role is asked to get in touch with any IRTS committee member.
Seeking HF News Readers

The IRTS is also still inviting HF newsreaders to join the panel for the weekly Sunday morning 40m and 80m IRTS news bulletins. The more people that volunteer to become readers, the less often that each individual person will have to read a bulletin. There is very little involved in reading the weekly news bulletin and no experience is necessary. If any licenced IRTS member living in EI feels like they would be interested in becoming part of the IRTS News Readers panel, or for more information, please get in touch with the IRTS News Coordinator Seany EI2HZB by phone on 083 4713001 or by email to irts_pro /at/ irts.ie.
EI0IRTS New Weekly News Bulletin

Last week, the IRTS news team was delighted to announce a new additional weekly EI0IRTS news bulletin. The new bulletin is read by members of the Dundalk Amateur Radio Society EI7DAR on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 p.m. local time on the EI2CCR Clermont Cairn 2m repeater. This bulletin is on a trial basis and a call in takes place after the news itself. You are all invited to call in and support this. EI2CCR's output frequency is 145.675MHz and it uses a 110.9Hz CTCSS tone. The IRTS wishes to thank the members of DARS for this Wednesday night bulletin and wish them every success with it.
South Eastern Amateur Radio Group EI2WRC

As tomorrow Monday, October 30th is a Bank Holiday, there will be no physical meeting of the South Eastern Amateur Radio Group EI2WRC. The next physical meeting will be their November meeting on Monday, November 30th at 8 p.m. sharp at the New Community Men's Shed, Ozanam Centre, Coffee House Lane, Waterford. New members, or anyone interested in learning more about amateur radio or the group are as always very welcome to attend. Everyone in EI2WRC would like to wish all the candidates sitting the HAREC exam in both the Dublin and Cork venues next Saturday the 4th of November, the very best of luck. They hope to hear you all on the airwaves very soon. To find out more about EI2WRC, their activities, and for contact details please see www.searg.ie
North Dublin Radio Club Celebrating 50 Years

As reported recently, the North Dublin Radio Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The club wishes to remind everyone that as part of their celebrations, they would like to invite their many past members to the Christmas party to make it a special one to remember. Traditionally, their party is held during the week preceding Christmas. If you'd like to come along and celebrate with them, please contact Tony EI6K on 086 298 5776 to express your provisional interest.
Build Your Own Satellite Ground Station

Jeffrey Roe EI7IRB is running another of his very popular workshops about Tiny Ground Station, or known as TinyGS, where you can build and program your own ground station and antenna to receive data from space. This hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop is perfect for anyone interested in radio, electronics, Internet of Things, antenna design, and space exploration. The workshop will take place on Sunday 12th of November from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It costs 80 euro and the venue will be the Tog Hackerspace on Kylemore Road in Dublin 12. For more information and to book a spot, visit www.tog.ie/calendar

The results of the IRTS 2m and 70cm Autumn Counties Contest have been published. For the 70cm contest, eighteen counties were logged overall, and twenty-five counties were logged for the 2m contest. The results may be found on www.irts.ie/results . Well done to all the winners and stations that took part.
SSTV from the International Space Station

After a long absence, satellite enthusiasts can again attempt to receive SSTV images from the International Space Station until Wednesday of this week. Transmissions are on 145.800MHz during active passes. This is a test to verify the performance of replacement SSTV equipment onboard the space station. Due to the testing, activity is not guaranteed, and SSTV may not be active during all passes. For Irish-based operators, the satellite passes occur during the night and early morning this week.
Upcoming UKEICC 80m Contest

The next UKIECC 80m contest of the 2023-2024 season will be on Wednesday 1st November 2023 at 8 p.m. on SSB. The bonus station EI5G will be operated by Marty EI2IAB. The second bonus station GW5GEI, will be operated by Stew GW0ETF. This is a one-hour contest, and the scoring is distance-based. No RST should be sent but instead the exchange is your six-character grid locator.
