Hi, I have a computer with the now industry preferred SATA (serial)
hard drive and windows XP, that got itself into trouble and would not boot
into Windows. Various efforts to reformat it failed e.g. I put it into
another computer, that has an ATA hard drive with Windows XP and thought
the SATA would come up as a slave but instead it came up as the c: drive.
So again could not do anything with it.
The internet in many bulletins, acknowledges the problems of reformatting
a SATA drive and offers various fixes, including having certain files on a
floppy drive. All too hard to find files!
However I saw advertised an outboard USB adaptor, that runs both ATA and
SATA drives. This was just what I wanted and sent off for it, a SKYMASTER
item, for about $30 and it worked just fine!
I could then read ordinary files on the SATA and then formatted the angry
thing in no time at all at all and very pleased with the results.
