I used to have an old 5Mb (not gig, Megabyte) - when cold and first switched
on, it would fail to revolve due to striction. That's sticky friction. The
only way to get it to start after it had been left for a few days was to give
the entire drive a quick flick around, which would rotate the drive casing
around the disks enough to help the motor to start the disks revolving.
