My Vaio VGN-A517S computer was OK as was the Viglen Contender P3 650 and
the Viglen Contender P3 733. The trouble seems to be with AMD processors
from what I read on the web. MS were looking into the problem.
I downloaded the service pack 3 as a programme. With the programme saved
on my local micro server, LAN-DISK I was able to update all three of my
computers with no trouble.
A friend of mine who is not very computer savvy picked the update up on
the automatic setting of Windows update. The update ran without any
problems on his home made machine (old metal case with power supply, new
mother board and new disk drives).
