Hmmmm interesting. I always assumed that the limiting factor was the HDD's
"bit rate". In other words with PATA UDMA 133 drives in a PC (one on each
of the mainboard's IDE ports) the most I seem to get is circa 80 to 100
mega bits per sec. The 133 indicating 133 mega bits per sec of the drives
capacity. Even using a USB2 external HDD (more than likely a PATA HDD
inside it) it still gives a similar bit rate when transferring files. And
as Andy pointed out via the works 100 mbps LAN, I get circa 80 mbps when
transferring files to a server.
I always thought that you never would get data on / off a PATA HDD at much
more than this except in a raid configuration with data striped across the
drives.
Or have I got it wrong?
