Hi Pete

I can't recommend a brand, but as you have only two devices then you
could use a crossover cable, and avoid the hub/switch completely
(at least initially). 

You'd even get away with a CAT 5 cable over a short distance.

Incidentally, on a system I look after, the GB NIC's only get about
double the throughput of the 100MB's on file transfer - I guess the 
CPU and disk access times start to limit the transfer, so I don't
get ten times the throughput :-(
