I just did a test here on a .ppm (Portable PixMat) image that is 17.28MB

The output files and sizes are
tif - 17.3MB
png - 2.04MB (Portable Network Graphics)
jpg - 1.47MB (100 percent quality)
jpg - 0.22MB (50 percent qyuality)

The jpg quality setting is from the slider in Irfanview, which I used to
convert from ppm. Some conversion programs add their own junk to a file,
Irfanview appears to not do that (and it's totally free)

The 50 percent image showed quite noticeable degradation of image quality,
all others looked fine to a "quick glance" for detail.

The source image, a radio coverage plot, was 2400 x 2400 pixels.

I hope this helps someone.

As for 7+ files sizes, I'm sure there's at least one sysop in the world who
considers a one byte 7+ file to be too big.

I doubt the majority would baulk at say ten files of 9k each.

I just wish that those who send 7+ files would send a plain text message in
advance of the 7+ components to advise what the image is.

Cheers ... Ray vk2tv
