Hi Pete and all,
Between all this packet discussion and a coincident TV presentation I'm
approaching the meltdown stage of information overload. (;->) A mud
bottom may help to preserve wood but makes diving difficult as the
slightest "breeze" tends to raise clouds of silt and cut visibility to
zero. Then if as you suggest the lead bearing ships were sunk atop Drakes
coffin it would be like trying to find gold in Fort Knox if you get the
strange analogy.
Marine worms may be found in great abundance just about anywhere which is
why wooden piles are pressure treated with creasote. Even so worms
eventually win, that's why the railroad bridge here had a section
replaced a couple of years ago, concrete is a bit more durable. Worms
aren't found in thick, packed mud so if they have the right location the
coffin just MAY be intact although extremely fragile which poses another
problem, how to raise it in one piece. Reminds me of why the Monitor is
still down but declared a protected historical site.
"Must be another Portobello ..or they like the name."
No and no. I'll let you chew on the mushroom a while before I give the
answer staring you in the face.
"Sir Francis Drake was also a Member of Parliament."
So why then wasn't he buried in a cigarette box?
Eh, shelve that one for now, you have enough trouble grqappling with a
mushroom. (;->)
