I think the hum bucking winding was on the outer limb of the LS electrom
agnet (HT choke), so nothing to do with the mains transformer. The hum Pot was
called a "hum dinger" (?) & used a low value (20ohm) pot slider earthed across
valve heaters on directly heated 4V valve gear. This let you set the minium hum
for that set of valves at that time on that mains voltage!
