Hello IW2OHX and all,

Thank you for your kind words, and for your questions.

Yes, the backbone is mostly AXUDP nowadays: the nodes are linked
over the Internet or the 44 network (AMPRNet), and each node can
keep its own radio ports for local users. FPAC 4.2 nodes learn
the ROSE routes from each other, so a new node only needs one
neighbour to reach the whole network.

RF ROSE still exists in France, but it has become rare. Michel
F3KT, near Nantes (IN97), is one example: his FPAC node F3KT-10
reaches the ROSE nodes F3KT-4 and F3KT-6 over radio. F3KT is off
the air until mid-November; after that you can try them from
F6BVP-8:

   C BVPN4
   C F3KT-6

If you (or any other sysop) would like to set up a ROSE node, I
would be glad to help, remotely, as we have just done in
Australia with Danny VK7HDM (Hobart, Tasmania) and as we are
preparing now in Greece with Demetre SV1UY (Athens).

What it takes:
- a Raspberry Pi with Raspberry Pi OS Lite 64-bit, or a Linux PC
  (Debian or Ubuntu);
- an SSH access for me, with a key, through a TCP port forwarded
  to port 22 of the machine;
- one UDP port forwarded for the AXUDP link to F6BVP-8;
- no 44 network address is needed.
Your radio ports (TNC at 1200 or 9600 bauds) can be added as user
ports, so local stations reach the network over RF.

Just tell me if you are interested, and which hardware you have.
