diploma "Worked All Brazil" (WAB). It has been a long time
since an Island in IOTA SA-045 was activated. The islands

and the moon season which affects the sea tide and the op-
portunities to reach the islands. The callsigns will be PQ8OP

SILENT KEY. Peter, HB9PL, informs OPDX that Pierre Pasteur, HB9QQ, became
a "Silent Key" (SK) on Saturday, June 11th, after a short but ferocious
illness at the age of 80. Peter states, "Pierre was a multi-faceted Ham
who was not only a seasoned DX=92er but a highly regarded expert in VHF/UHF
work and the 'magic band'. He was author of numerous technical papers
and a book about VHF/UHF 'Operating Modes and Techniques'. Unforgettable
were his VHF and EME expeditions to HB0, 8Q7, V51 and lectures of these
adventures at many conventions and other Ham gatherings. Pierre achieved
the WAC on 144 mc EME in 1984 and the DXCC on 50 MHz in 2002. An ex-
Maritime Radio Operator, he was an Honorary Member of USKA (Union of
Swiss Short Wave Amateurs) and a number of other distinguished societies
in Amateur Radio. He leaves his wife Inge, a son and a daughter. He will
forever remain in our hearts." OPDX and its readers would like to send
out our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of HB9QQ.

ST0, SOUTHERN SUDAN (Look for more Ops!). Paul, N6PSE, Co-Leader for the
DXpedition to Southern Sudan states, "I anticipate having 1-2 openings
on our DXpedition team to the newly created country of South Sudan. We
are targeting our start date to coincide with the admission of the country
by the UN. Currently, the feeling is that may be mid-August, 2011.
If you are a good CW or SSB operator, strong team player and have a
sense of adventure and would seriously consider going with us to Juba,
South Sudan via Cairo, please contact me directly at: paul@n6pse.com
We are taking the bulk of our gear with us. This is a well planned
and well funded DXpedition. The focus will be on providing new ones and
on having fun at the same time." The official Web site is at:
