CQ NEWS. Richard Moseson, W2VU, Editorial Director from CQ Communications,
Inc., sent out the following press release on December 10th: "WorldRadio
Online Garners More Than 1000 'Fans' on Facebook -- WorldRadio Online,
the first major online-only ham radio magazine, has topped 1,000 fans on
its Facebook page, according to Editorial Director Rich Moseson, W2VU.
The magazine has had a presence on the social networking website since
February of this year.
The WRO page on Facebook provides a forum for posting messages of
interest to readers and potential readers, along with an opportunity
for readers to engage writers and editors in online conversations.
Reflecting the general demographics of Facebook, the magazine's fans
there tend to be younger than the perceived age of the amateur radio
community as a whole, with 65% of WRO Facebook fans being between the
ages of 25 and 54. 'This provides additional data to show that younger
hams are out there in large numbers, but perhaps are more visible in
cyberspace than at club meetings and hamfests,' notes Moseson. 'One
goal of our magazines is to build a community of readers who share
experiences and information with each other, and if our online presence
is able to help bring younger hams into that community, then we are
achieving that goal.'
WorldRadio Online has been published online by CQ Communications,
Inc., since February, 2009. The previous print version of the magazine
began monthly publication in 1971. CQ Communications is the leading
independent publisher in the amateur radio/hobby radio community. It
also publishes CQ Amateur Radio, CQ VHF and Popular Communications
magazines, along with a variety of books and related products."

CY0, SABLE ISLAND (Update/Rescheduled). The CY0 team has announced this
past week: "Approval has been granted by Canadian authorities and the
Officer-in-Charge (OIC) for Sable Island, for a 3rd attempt at accessing
Sable Island, in early March 2011.
This time period was selected, in part, due to still having favorable
low band conditions, and also to receive the benefits of projected improved
solar conditions and propagation on the high bands near the Spring Equinox.
We are hopeful that weather conditions will be improved, even though we
have learned that no time period is certain when visiting Sable Island."
Watch for update on their Web site at: http://www.CY0dxpedition.com

LAST MINUTE UPDATE FROM RANDY/N0TG (dated Dec. 12th): "Approval has
been granted for a 'third' try to access Sable Island. This attempt
will be in March 2011 with the hope that the weather won't be quite
as volatile. Sable weather though is always an issue. With this being
our third try, the link on the Web home page, "How To Contribute" is
available for any that wish to consider this matter which will be
helpful and appreciated. We=92re optimistic and working hard to make
this happen. A side note: As of this writing the beach landing area
on Sable is still completely flooded from the storm surge one week
ago.....pictures are placed on the Web page at:
                     http://www.CY0dxpedition.com "
ADDED NOTE: Just a reminder. Al Wilson, VE1AWW/CY0, is an assigned worker
on Sable Island. His schedule is 3 months ON and 3 Months OFF. Currently,
he is on the island and will be active as work schedules permits through
DECEMBER. He is beginning to show up on the Clusters....

DX-CODE OF CONDUCT (Reminder). The "DX-Code of Conduct" are some very

good operating skills to make it into the DX log in away that is both
efficient and follows the ethical standards of operating on the amateur
bands. So please visit and become a supporter of the "DX-Code of Conduct"
Web page at: http://dx-code.org

9V1SJ QSLS. It is almost impossible to receive a QSL from this station.
If you look on QRZ.com, it states "SORRY, WE DON'T HAVE A MANAGER OR
QSL CARDS FOR THIS STATION" ... even the operators ask stations not
to use the address in QRZ.com. However, some stations "MAY" receive a
QSL card for activity between December 7-11th. One of the operators
named Joe, home call VK5WU, who operated from 9V1SJ as a demonstration
for JOTA, for the Boy Scouts, "MAY" send QSLs out via the Bureau once
   he returns to Australia. KYFC!

NEED A QSL MANAGER? Saulius Zalnerauskas, LY5W, is available and is
volunteering. His E-mail address is: ly5w.sam@gmail.com
His mail address is: Saulius Zalnerauskas, Box 1081, Kaunas, LT-49005,
   Lithuania.

PJ4D AND PJ4W QSL STATUS. Kelly, N0VD, PJ4D team member, reports that
the PJ4D design went to the printer last week. The PJ4W card is still
in the design stage and will go to the printer in the next couple of
   weeks.

TC2010GT via TA1HZ. Activity was by the members of the TCSWAT (TC Special
Wireless Activity Team) this past weekend and was from the Galata Tower.
This is the last special callsign to be used by TCSWAT for the "Istanbul-
European Capital of Culture 2010" theme. The TCSWAT policy is to send QSL
cards 100% via the bureaus. Please do not rush to send in your QSL card
direct. At the beginning of January, TCSWAT will start sending out all i=
ts
QSL cards to the many countries in the bureau system. More details are
   available at <QRZ.com> and <www.tcswat.org>.

XW, LAOS (Update). Hiroo, JA2EZD, will once again be active as XWPA
(callsign is correct and not XW2A) from the Vientiane DX Club for another
year (specific dates not provided). Activity will be on the HF bands
using an IC-706 and TL922 amplifier. He was spotted on 15 meters CW
between 0730-0830z. QSL via: Hiroo Yonezuka, Box DD153, Huang Sathai,
Vientiane, Laos.

ZS8, MARION ISLAND (Update). Pierre, ZS1HF/ZS8M, is partially QRT for
a while until he identifies the severe electronic interference from the
new base. He hopes to operate for short periods during this time. He
thinks he has identified the fire alarm system and the air handling
units as the main culprits. Once switched on, they cause severe broad
band interference, preventing successful HF operations, even on the
commercial frequencies. Pierre has relocated his ZS8M operation to the
old radio room in the old base for the time being and will be operational
from there until he can eliminate the QRM. Pierre was heard this past
Saturday on 15 meters (around 21250 kHz) between 1345-1517z. He also
mentions that he has been away from home for 8 months now and only has
5 months left on the island. He expects to be back in Cape Town on May
11th. Pierre has also released another newsletter from Marion Island
(Special Christmas edition) where he provides more pictures, along with
more details about the happenings and activities on the island. His
newsletter can be found online at: http://www.iz8epy.it/html/zs8m.html
