DX0, SPRATLY ISLANDS (Update - The Spratlys DXpedition gets wings!).
Jim Linton, VK3PC, Public Affairs for the DX0DX DXpedition, sent out
the following press release on November 26th: "With just over 40 days
to go before the month-long DX0DX DXpedition, comes news that the operators
will now fly to Thitu (Pag-Asa) Island rather than taking a 30 hour
plus trip by sea.
Team Leader, Chris Dimitrijevic, VK3FY & DU8/VK3FY, said while flying
had been an option in early planning, when the boat that would have
ferried the operators was damaged in heavy sea and needing substantial
repairs, aviation transport to and from the island became available.
The charter of a twin-engined aircraft adds to the expense of the
DXpedition and the personal costs for all taking part in it. Smaller
sea transport will still be used to get equipment and supplies to the
island.
The 37 operators from 15 countries are ready to arrive and take part
in three teams to put DX0DX on air from 6 January to 1 February 2011,
including the CQ World Wide 160m CW Contest. The special DX entity The
Spratlys Islands (IOTA AS-051) will have a big presence on all bands.
Chris, VK3FY & DU8/VK3FY, said, 'There is a real excitement within
the amateur radio community about this particular DXpedition, and most
of the operators just can't wait to be part of action.
It is much more than activating a rare DX spot. There is no doctor or
health service on the island. As part of a humanitarian contribution,
two DXpedition members who are doctors, Josette Docherty/VK2FXGR and
Edward Soriano/4F1OZ, will provide medical checks to the island's
residents.'
It was announced today that Amateur Radio Victoria, VK3WI, had voted
to make a substantial donation directly to purchase medical supplies
for use as part of the humanitarian effort.
In other news, Chris Dimitrijevic, VK3FY & DU8/VK3FY, announced that
for the 160m band DX0DX will have two 65 foot Top Hat phased verticals
and a back-up Titanex V1602E antenna.
'The DXpedition will be doing its utmost to satisfy the demand for
contacts on the Top Band, as demonstrated by it having the highest sought
after rating in the DX0DX website online survey,' he said.
All equipment for the DXpedition will have arrived in The Philippines.
Earlier it was reported how eight HF Yagi antennas had been pre-assembled
and tuned, ready for construction and erection on the island.
The Philippine Amateur Radio Association (PARA) has appointed DX0DX
team member, Dindo Garcia, DV1UD, as the PARA liaison person to handle
all Bureau of Customs requirements.
Thank you to the generous corporate sponsorship that makes the DXpedition
possible by providing equipment and other needs, plus funding support from
DX groups, clubs, and individual radio amateurs.
For more information about the DXpedition please check out the www.dx0dx=
.net
website which has just been extensively updated."

is the ONLY method of QSLing for this operation. No paper

NEW QSL ROUTE. Jack, RN3RQ, announces that he will be receiving all
the logs (since 2000) from Slava for UA2FL and R750Y. He is now the
QSL Manager for Slava and will have the full colored QSLs printed up
after the CQWW DX CW Contest.

VU2PAI ON LoTW. Pai, VU2PAI, informs OPDX that he has uploaded about
100,000 QSOs to the LoTW dating back from 1995. He states, "It is of
course not complete as I still have a lot of logs which are on paper
(especially from my IOTA activations to AS-096 and AS-161). I will try
and convert them into electronic logs, but it will be a time consuming
process!" Pai also mentions that he still has QSL cards for the following
   activations: VU2PAI/c, AT0PAI, AT2PAI, VU2PAI/50, IOTA cards for St.
Marys Island (AS-096) and Sacrifice Rock Island (AS-161). He will be
happy to QSL any of these older contacts. However, he suggests, "Please
do not send green stamps or IRCs while sending QSL cards to me! IRCs
are fine, no problem at all in the regular mail, but mail with dollars
comes damaged or goes missing. Sending a QSL with green stamps must be
sent via registered mail only!!! But there is no need for that at all."
He states, "I would prefer is if you can stick 2 or 3 beautiful stamps
on your envelope when you send your card to me. But please do not forget
a Self Addressed Envelope or a address sticker along with your QSL card.
I still like to collect paper QSL cards as I like the personal touch.
I have also been a keen collector of postage stamps from round the world
since I have been a school boy! I will of course be uploading future

RADIO ARCALA WILL AIR THEIR STATION NETWORK FOR CQWW CW! A press release
by Jarmo, OH2BN, on November 23rd, states: "The 2010 CQWW CW will shortly
be dominating the bands, only to prompt several OHs to leave their Northerly
fireworks and head South. But at the same time, the fire is set at the home
of OH8X, Radio Arcala, Northern Finland, right next to the Santa Claus
Village in the spirit of Christmas. <www.santaclausvillage.info>
So, the mother OH8X will be operated by Pasi, OH6UM, while the Azores,
CR2X will have Toni, OH2UA, at the helm, and the OH2BH station will be
piloted by Ilkka, OH1WZ, all in the Single-Op, All-Band category. Traveling
to Turkey, TC4X will be Pertti, OH2PM, for a Single-Band effort while
Pekka/OH2TA, Juha/OH1ND and Martti/OH2BH will fire up OH0X, Aland Islands,

VOACAP ONLINE (Update). Jari/OH6BG and the VOACAP Online team now offers
coverage area predictions at: http://www.voacap.com/coverage.html
There is a new addition to the VOACAP Online HF prediction toolbox which
has coverage area maps. The coverage area map service uses a familiar
Google Maps interface with an added possibility to choose the TX QTH
from a DXCC-type of a list of over 470 pre-defined locations all over
the globe. Also entering a Maidenhead locator in the Name field and
setting a coordinate point as the user's default TX location are supported.
The result map shows the probability to achieve a CW QSO from a TX site
to a grid of RX sites. The prediction is plotted on a map of equidistant
cylindrical projection, together with the grayline terminator and the
position of the Sun.
This service should be of particular interest to DXpeditions and
contest operators who want to find the most suitable times of operation
on different bands. If a more accurate HF prediction between two locations
is needed, then VOACAP-based point-to-point predictions are available at:
                       http://online.voacap.com

VP8, FALKAND ISLANDS. Look for VP8SCC to begin transmitting in Digital
modes during December 2010. Activity is from the Falkland Islands Sea

on December 6th and leave on December 17th. As was the case in February
during his first visit, this time it's also a business trip. Mirek said
that this time he will be busier than during his February visit, so the
time for operation on bands will be very limited. But Mirek always tries
to do his best to be active. QSL Z21DXI via SP5UAF, by the Bureau, direct
