CQ COMMUNICATIONS PRESS RELEASE. Richard Moseson/W2VU, Editor, sent out
the following on September 1st: "CQ Magazine Launches Streamlined Website
- Celebrates With Special Web-Only Offer (Hicksville, NY) -- CQ magazine
has launched a new, easy-to-navigate website, and is celebrating with a
special web-only discount offer. The updated site, which features a clean
new look and a streamlined user interface, completes a company-wide website
upgrade for all four magazines published by CQ Communications, Inc.
The site features highlights of the current issue and links to selected
content, as well as hamfest & special event listings, easy links to the
CQ Writer's Guide, award and contest information, a comprehensive links
section, special information for new and prospective hams, and direct links
to advertisers' websites, as well as a direct link to CQ's Facebook page.
Callsign lookup and a link to the online CQ archive are also included.
New material posted includes September issue highlights, expanded results
of the 2009 CQWW CW Contest (as well as complete SSB results), a link for
pre-ordering CQ's 2011-2012 Amateur Radio Calendar, and a special web-only

'We have always had a tremendous amount of valuable information on our
website,' said Editor Rich Moseson, W2VU. 'But because it has been added
bit-by-bit over the years, some of it had become hard to find. Our new
design makes it much easier for readers and prospective readers to access
this treasure trove of ham radio information.'

serving active hams since 1945. In print for more than 65 years, it is
one of the longest-running magazines in publication today. CQ is published

pedition.

VK0H, HEARD ISLAND. It was announced this past week that Heard Island,
ranked the number 6th world's most wanted DX entities, will once again
be activated in February of 2013. This uninhabited sub-Antarctic island,
in the Southern Indian Ocean, was last activated in January 1997 (VK0IR).
The planned 2013 Dxpedition is being organized by co-leaders Chris/VK3FY
and Steve/VK6IR. The co-leaders are proposing to be on the island for
two weeks with a 13 member DXpedition team. This is expected to be a very
expensive operation costing around 500,000 USDs. Discussions has already
taken place with the relevant Australian Government Minister and an
application has been submitted for approval. Also, negotiations have
begun to appropriate a ship for the journey to Heard Island. Once all
the above items are approved and set, a callsign will be sought from the
Australian Communications and Media Authority, and Web site will be set
up to keep everyone informed. Stay tuned! By the way, Jim, VK3PC, has
been named the Publicist for the Heard Island 2013 DXpedition, and he
will keep OPDX and its readers informed.

YJ0VK DXPEDITION WRAP-UP. Chris, VK3QB, reports (edited): "The four
members of the YJ0VK team (Chris/VK3QB, Allan/VK2CA, Luke/VK3HJ and
Brenton/VK3CBV) returned from Vanuatu on September 2nd, after 6 days
of operation. A quick summary of operation follows:
    * Almost 4,000 qsos
    * 69 DXCC entities
    * Approx 500 digital qsos (RTTY and PSK31)

Overall the team had a lot of fun and regards the expedition as a
success. Conditions were a bit disappointing, especially into EU,
with barely 300 QSOs to that part of the world. We listened, we called
EU but conditions did not favor that path; we worked EU as much as
possible when the conditions were there. Obviously, lots of NA and JA.
More detailed statistics can be found on our Web site (under the 'News'
tab) at: http://yj0vk.vkham.com
We have also posted a few pictures under the 'Gallery' tab.
The QSL card is currently being designed, and we hope to start QSLing
in the coming 4-5 weeks. Many thanks to all the patient operators who
sat on the side as we worked the pileups, and also those who persevered
with the poor conditions. And sorry to those who we know were chasing
us but we were unable to work =96 especially on 12 and 30 meters. We did
try!
A more detailed report will be published in the coming weeks when we
recover from the trip and get our equipment unpacked, cleaned and ready
for the next trip.
On behalf of the team, I would like to offer a special thank-you to
the following:
     * ODXG as principle supporter
     * Chris, VK5CP, for the loan of equipment
     * Phil, VK3YB, for the loan of equipment
     * Allan, VK2CA, and vkham.com for our internet presence.
     * Individual amateurs who made donations
     * Brian, VK3BSN, (NBS Masts and Antennas) who manufactured our
       vertical antennas

Thanks again to one and all, and I think we are already considering
another trip next year. Very 73 to all...es gud dx. Pls drop me an
E-mail <vk3qb@wia.org.au> if you have any questions about the trip.
On behalf of the YJ0VK Team, de Chris, VK3QB"
