Meteorscatter Contest in December:
As well as the BCC MS Contest in Europe (pse have a look at:
http://www.mmmonvhf.de/latest.php?id=2988 ) there will be the
2009 North American VHF WSJT Geminids Test during December 2009
The contest formerly known as the North American High-Speed Meteor
Scatter Contest has been reinvented using distance scoring (as well
as other appropriate rules modifications) and will be held on Dec.
12 through December 16. This contest, going forward, will be known
as the North American VHF WSJT Geminids Test. As always, it is
sponsored by the WSJT Group (groups.yahoo.com/group/WSJTgroup).
Rules are posted at
http://www.sportscliche.com/wb2fko/w09/rules_w09.pdf.
Please read the Rules carefully, as there quite a few changes this
year, including distance scoring and the allowance of non-MS
contacts (as long as they are made by WSJT). It will be really
fun! See you all there - SOURCE: Bill W5WVO via WSJT Reflector

METEORSCATTER - LEONIDS 2009 - a first overview:
The predicted 2009 Leonids Outburst has actually occurred,in good
agreement with computations. The maximum took place on November
17th, around 20:20 UT (somewhat earlier than expected), with
ZHR = 120 hr-1 at peak. Several other subpeaks have been observed.
Unfortunately (as predicted), the time of maximum has not favoured
european MS operators. In fact, at the time of the Outburst(s),
the Leonids Radiant was below the horizon for western / central
Europe or, at most, very low above horizon for stations located
in eastern / northeastern Europe. As a result, the Outburst has
not been perceived by radio operators in Europe, since it was not
possible (or at most, very difficult) to detect radio echoes from
Leonids meteor trails during that time interval. The Outburst
profile has been rather sharp. After radiant rise, the Leonids
meteor flux was already dropped significantly, and at the time the
radiant was at optimal elevation for best radio efficiency in
Europe (around 02-03 UT) the ZHR value was around 20-30 hr-1 only.
Anyway, many good MS contacts have been performed across Europe
especially in the early hours (UT) of Nov. 18th. Several long bursts
(typical of Leonids) have been noticed, although not as many as in
some past Leonids displays. That seems to indicate that meteor
brightness was below average, maybe with excess of fainter meteors.
An overview of 2009 Leonids shower can be found at our
MS-Propagationpage: http://www.mmmonvhf.de/ms.php

VK9NA VHF/UHF/Microwave DXpedition
3rd January ?14th January 2010 (OC-005) (RG30xx). With just over
6 weeks till we fly out from Melbourne, preparation is pretty
frantic. We need to make all our antenna easily transportable,
and to check all gear is correctly operational, so this has been
our focus thus far. We intend to do two practice set ups before
we have to start packing the gear for shipping. Look for us on
the upcoming VHF Spring Field Day. Read about all bands and Modes:

My return trip plans are firming up a bit - here is what the current
grid stops are looking like:
Friday PM/Saturday AM (20/21 Nov): on/near DN91/DN90 boundary in NE
Saturday PM/Sunday AM (21/22 Nov): on/near DM99/DM98 boundary in KS
Sunday PM/Monday AM (22/23 Nov): on/near DM97/DM96 boundary near KS/OK
Monday PM/Tuesday AM 23/24 Nov): on/near DM95/DM94 boundary in TX
Need to be back to AZ by Wednesday evening so DM95/94 will probably be
the last operating stop. As always, all this schedule is dependent on
cooperation from the weather gods. My main operating period at these
stops will be the morning hours - I hope to be operational by 1230Z
each morning. Emphasis will be 6M but I also have 2M capability. If
you have any questions or special requests, let me know at
ks7s"at"cox.net - I hope to have computer access from most of these
locations so I plan to be on PJ. CU on the bands! 73 Jim KS7S

Spring VHF/UHF field day activity plans by VK1DA
VK1DA plans to operate from Mt Ginini (QF44) for the WIA's Spring
VHF/UHF field day on 28-29 November 09. Bands to be used are 6m,
2m, 70cm, 23cm, 13cm and 9cm. Other operators are planning to be
active from locations in or near VK1. Most field day activity is
on SSB on the lower end of each band, but some FM contacts may be
made using simplex frequencies such as 146.5. Contacts via repeaters
or satellites are not permitted for the VHF/UHF field days.
