7Q7HB (G0JMU), on the southern shore of Lake Malawi for one month starting
February 23rd. Allan informs OPDX that he will be taking an amplifier and
a wire antenna for Top-Band with him which should be a little better and
stronger for this band. However, he mentions that this is the rainy season,
with lots of lightning storms around the Lakeshore so please don't expect
miracles. Harry is already fairly active on RTTY and PSK31, but 7Q7AH hopes
to fill some gaps when Harry is busy. There is also a chance that John,
7Q7JL, will also visit the shack to transmit if the roads are okay to
drive on between the Lakeshore and Blantyre. QSL route is to G0IAS, DIRECT
ONLY, with sufficient funds for card return. NO return postage... NO return
card. Allan states, "Sorry people but postage is expensive in the UK...and
the managers pockets are only so deep.!"

between June 8-25th. Activity will be on 40 and 20 meters using SSB.

FH, MAYOTTE. Remember to look for Phil/G3SWH and Richard (Dick on CW)/G3RWL
to be active from Mayotte this week between February 26th and March 5th.
Mayotte counts as AF-027 for IOTA purposes. Both operators will use the
single callsign of FH/G3SWH. Their activity will be mainly on CW on all
bands 80-10 meters. There may be some 160 meters CW activity, but this
will be entirely subject to QRN, antenna space and local site conditions,
so there are no promises. Richard may also operate some RTTY towards the
end of the trip. Propagation permitting, they plan to have two stations
on the air for as many hours every day as is possible. Their main objective
is to work as many European, North American and ROTW stations on as many

NA-186. Cezar, VE3LYC, is planning a DXpedition to one of the most
wanted IOTAs in the world called Fox Island. Cezar states,
"This group sits on the #1 position on the NA-IOTA Most Wanted
list with only 3% of the IOTA members having it confirmed. The
only activation was back in 1993, for only a few hours.
Several years ago Fox Islands had been designated polar
bear resting site in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area
and became off limits for the public. This past Thursday (Feb.
19th), I had finally been informed that a permit had been issued
for my DXpedition, and I will be able to travel to the islands
between March 31st and April 3rd. Note that I have also
requested a special callsign from Industry Canada, but their
evaluation is likely to take a little longer. I will travel
with two professional guides who will provide transportation
to the island by snowmobiles, bear watch and safety, as well
as all logistical support required for such an operation.
Outside temperature at that time of the year is expected to be
around -10 C. If I'll be able to obtain the special callsign,
I will set up a page at QRZ.com where I will update everyone on
what follows." Costs of this operation are very high and Cezar
is seeking any possible support from both group and individual
donors. Cezar states, "Any donation will be truly, very much
be appreciated. There are two things that I will include later
on the QRZ.com page. First, about the QSLing. Those who choose
to mail direct requests should check the cost of mail from
Canada to their QTH. QSL requests received with insufficient
return postage will be automatically sent via the bureau.
Secondly, I will be camping in total wilderness without internet
access on the island. As such, DX Cluster posts addressed to me
as criticism or requests are useless. I am determined to give all
parts of the world a chance, and I ask DXers to respect my direct
calls."
J8, ST. VINCENT. Dave, G3TBK, is once again active from here as J88DR.
He was in last weekend's ARRL DX CW Contest but is also expected to be
in ARRL DX SSB Contest (March 7-8th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power
entry. Activity outside of the contest will be on all HF bands, especially
30/17/12 meters, but mostly on CW. QSL via G3TBK, direct or by the RSGB
Bureau.
JD1, OGASAWARA. Operators Hide/JM1LJS and Hiroyuki/JG7PSJ will be active
as JD1BLK and JD1BMH, respectively, from Chichijima Island (AS-031)
between April 29th and May 12th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters using
CW, SSB and the Digital modes. QSL via their home callsigns.
KG4, GUANTANAMO BAY. Dan, W0CN, will be on a short work assignment and
active as KG4CN from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (GITMO, IOTA NA-015, Grid FK29),
from February 26th until March 9th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters,
mostly SSB and some CW. Also, look for Dan to be operating in the ARRL
DX SSB Contest (March 7-8th). QSL to W0CN (LoTW/direct/Zero-Bureau).
KP5, DESECHEO ISLAND DXPEDITION (News/Update).................
* The K5D DXpedition to Desecho Island continues to be on the air until
February 26th. On February 20th, "Group #2" left the island and was
replaced by "Group #3". "Group #1" will be staying during the whole
K5D operation. Pictures of the groups as follows:
#1 http://69.89.25.185/~trexsoft/t-rexsoftware.com/desecheo/group1.htm
#2 http://69.89.25.185/~trexsoft/t-rexsoftware.com/desecheo/group2.htm
#3 http://69.89.25.185/~trexsoft/t-rexsoftware.com/desecheo/group3.htm
The team has fought hot weather, high winds and seas which cause them
to lose several antennas on the beach due to guy-points being washed
away, but the DXpedition continues to operate effectively. Plenty of
new pictures are being added daily to the DXpeditions Web site and the
K5D QSO count keeps climbing high. As this was being written (Sunday
at 1823z), the K5D QSO count was just under 86k contacts (+41k/CW,
+38k/SSB and +5k/RTTY). This count does not include QSOs being made
on the satellites. Remember, online logs at available at:
http://69.89.25.185/~trexsoft/t-rexsoftware.com/desecheo/lookup.htm
Activity will continue on 160-6 meters using 6-8 stations on CW, SSB
and RTTY. QSL via N2OO. Remember for updates/logs/pictures, visit the
KP5 Web page at: http://www.kp5.us
MJ, JERSEY. Operators David/G3NKC, Dave/G4BUO, Martin/G4XUM and Phil/GJ4CBQ
will be active as MH4K during the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 28-29th) as
a Multi-? entry. QSL via G3NKC.
P4, ARUBA (Change of Plans). Andy, AE6Y, will be active as P49Y during
the ARRL DX SSB Contest (instead of the CW Contest -- March 7-8th) as
a Single-Op/All-Band entry. QSL via AE6Y.
PJ7, ST. MAARTEN. Bil/W8EB and his wife Dorothy/W8DVC will be here between
February 22nd and March 19th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters, CW, SSB,
RTTY and PSK31 as PJ7/W8EB and possibly PJ7/W8DVC. Operations will be
limited because he is on holiday. Bil will operate in the ARRL DX SSB Contest
(March 7-8th) as PJ7B, and as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry. This will
be Bil's 14th consecutive ARRL DX SSB Contest participation from St. Maarten.
Also look for him to be in any RTTY contests. All QSL requests go to W8EB.

will be resent and with a new QSL with all the necessary data.
NEW QSL MANAGER. Nenad, VE3EXY, announced that he is now managing VE1OTA
QSLs for "NEW" activations (all QSOs after January 2009). VE1VOX will
still handle his own cards as well as OLD VE1OTA activations (all
QSOs before January 2009). For more details, see QRZ.com.

RW2, KALININGRAD. Members of the UA2 Contest Club will be active as
RW2F in the CQ 160-Meter SSB Contest (February 27th-March 1st) as a
Multi-Op entry. QSL via DK4VW.
S9, SAO TOME (AF-023). Georg, DK7LX, will once again be active as S92LX
from June 13-27th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters CW only. He plans to
have a Web site available which will include an online log search. QSL
via his home callsign, direct or by the bureau.
SPECIAL EVENT. Look for special event stations to be active with the
"1658" within their callsigns on February 26th. Activity is to celebrate
the "Treaty of Roskilde" when the three most southern provinces of Sweden
[Skane (Scania), Blekinge and Halland] became under Swedish rule after
more than 800 years of Danish rule. Working these stations is good for the
"Roskilde 1658 Award". To qualify for the award you must work two Swedish
award callsigns with 1658 in the call, or OZ1658ROS and one Swedish award
callsign. During the rest of the year four Swedish award callsigns or
three Swedish award callsigns and OZ1658ROS are needed. The award is also
available for SWLs. All callsigns, maybe with the exception of SH1658DK,
will be active sometime during the day on February 26th. Most activity
will take place after work hours, that is around 1600z or later, on 80m
and 40m. Some stations will be active on 20m and other DX bands around
0800-1500z, if conditions permit. Also, SB1658OZ will be active on PSK31
near 14070 kHz on February 26th, if conditions permit. This station is
situated in the province of Blekinge, and is also valid for the very rare
"Lan K" for the national WASA/HASA awards issued by their IARU organiza-
tion, SSA. Only a handful of hams are active on the HF bands from the
county of Blekinge. "Roskilde 1658 Award" was presented in the February
2009 issue of CQ Amateur Radio. Check out their activities calendar on
the Roskilde award's Web site for complete information at:
http://www.sk7bq.com/roskilde
The calendar will list all callsigns that will be active with their
approximate dates/times and frequencies. The calendar is updated
continuously when new activities are announced. An online log is available
as well. It is updated at least every month if there has been activity
with the callsigns. It will also tell you if you have qualified for the
award.
SV9, CRETE (EU-015). Willi, DJ7RJ, will be active as SV9/DJ7RJ between
February 25th and March 15th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters, using
CW and SSB. QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the bureau.
T2, TUVALU. Operators Bob/W7YAQ and Bill/N7OU are now active on Tuvalu
as T27A and T27OU, respectively, until March 2nd. Both operators were
active this past weekend as T27A in the ARRL DX CW Contest as a Multi-
Single entry. Look for activity this week on 160-10 meters, mostly CW,
some RTTY. QSL via their home callsign.
TA, TURKEY. Members of the Telsiz ve Radyo Amatorleri Cemiyeti Musta-
fakemalpasa Subesi (TA3KZ) and the Balkan Contest Club (LZ1KZA) will

V31YN/p and V31GW/p, respectively, from Blue Marlin Lodge on Southwater
Caye (NA-180), between February 26th and March 3rd. Activity will be on
all bands and modes. QSL via their home callsigns, direct or by the bureau
or LoTW.
VP2M, MONTSERRAT (NA-103). Operators Mike/W1USN, Scott/W1SSR and Bob/AA1M
will be active between February 25th and March 7th. Their callsigns have
not yet been assigned, but they have requested VP2MPR (W1USN) and VP2MPL
(AA1M), if not, VP2M/homecall. Activity is planned for CW, SSB and PSK-31.
QSL via their CBA.
VK9M, MELLISH REEF. Operators George/AA7JV and Tomi/HA7RY will be active
as VK9GMW in what they call "another low-key, simple DXpedition", from
Mellish Reef between March 22nd and April 6th. Please note that the dates
are approximate and may change due to weather. The operation will have a
strong low-band focus, although VK9WMW will operate on all HF bands. QSL
will be via HA7RY, by the Bureau or LoTW or direct to: Tamas Pekarik,
Alagi ut 15, H-2151 Fot, HUNGARY. After VK9GMW has gone QRT, they will
launch an "Online QSL Request Service" (OQRS) on their Web site. If you
want to receive your QSL via the Bureau, please use that form to request
the card. They will check your QSOs against the log and send your card to
you via the Bureau. This method will allow them faster processing, helps
them protect the environment, and you will receive your VK9GMW card faster.
