U.S. COUNTIES (USA-CA) -
13/02/2009: Barry/N0KV and Pat/N0DXE will be running mobile, SSB and

permitting - CO: Douglas, Jefferson, Clear Creek, Summit, Grand,

Sweetwater. UT: Daggett and Uintah. CO: Rio Blanco, Garfield, Eagle,
Summmit, Clear Creek, Jefferson and Douglas. (Probably stop in Carbon or
Sweetwater first nite and W. CO 2d nite) If you have a need for an
adjacent county and we have time, we will try and help. [County Hunter
Web]
14/02/2009: Colin, KU5B along with Stacy, W5JSJ will be running mobile
on February 14th from the following U.S. counties, SSB and CW - LA:

St.Martin, Lafayette, Acadia, Jefferson Davis and Calcasieu. Colin will
likely be focusing on CW (mainly 20/40, with 10/15/80 capability) but
may go to SSB as the stream of callers decreases or if he will be
crossing that parish multiple times. He has Evangeline listed a couple
of times as Streets and Trips denotes the parish line crossing over the
Interstate in places but he is not sure if the GPS will tell me that or
not. If there are any parishes that are especially needed, let him know
and he will try to work something out. Streets and Trips estimates this
route to take around 8.5hrs so there may be some time to add another
parish or two. Send email requests to colin@ku5b.com [County Hunter Web]
15/02/2009: Look for Lloyd, NX4W to be running mobile, SSB and Digital

St Charles, Jefferson, Plaquemines, St Tammany. MS: Hancock, Harrison,
Jackson. AL: Mobile, Baldwin. FL: Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa,
THURSDAY, FEB 19: Walton, Bay, Gulf, Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson,
Taylor, Lafayette, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy. Lloyd will be starting out
each day around 1300-1330 UTC. He will be running a little different
than the past. All SSB runs will be on the move and of course PSK31 he
will have to stop. Most of the PSK31 runs will be on county lines unless
of course they are wet. He is going to run both 30m and 40m PSK31. First
10.139 and as soon as he is finished with 30m he will go directly to
7.072 on 40m. [County Hunter Web]

The IARU President and Vice President confirmed -
Following a worldwide balloting that ended on February 10th, the IARU
International Secretariat announced today the ratifications of the
nominations of Timothy S. Ellam, VE6SH/G4HUA, to serve as President of
the IARU for a five-year term beginning on 9 May 2009 and of Ole
Garpestad, LA2RR, to serve as Vice President of the IARU for a five-year
term also beginning on 9 May 2009.
Mr Ellam, a long time Canadian Amateur residing in Calgary, Alberta, was
until now Vice President of the IARU. He is well known in the Canadian
Amateur administration circles as he has been active with RAC and its
proceeding organizations for many years. He will be replacing Dr Larry
E. Price, W4RA, who has been IARU President since 1998 and has decided
to retire at the end of his current term in May.
Mr Garpestad, a resident of Oslo, Norway is presently President of the
IARU Region 1. He also has a long history of working for Amateur Radio
at different levels over the years.
Our congratulations to Tim and Ole and we are looking forward to working
with them.
We also want to thank Larry for many decades of hard work preserving
Amateur privileges and working to get us some more.

New Zealand to get 7.1-7.2 MHz Primary -
The New Zealand regulator the MED has announced that the Amateur Radio
service will gain Primary access to 7.1-7.2 MHz after 29 March 2009.
The Ministry of Economic Development (MED) website says:
In accordance with the ITU Radio Regulations published last year the use
of the frequency band 7.1 to 7.2 MHz for Broadcasting services will
cease after 29 March 2009.
This change aligns use of the band in ITU-R Regions 1 and 3 with Region
2. (Region 3 includes New Zealand). PIB 21 will be amended by removing
the New Zealand broadcasting allocation in this band.
This change means that the amateur radio service will enjoy primary
access to the band after 29 March 2009.
The announcement 'Broadcasting use of frequency Band 7.1 to 7.2 MHz' can
be seen at

World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-11), but I look forward to
working as a team to meet the challenges ahead.
