05/01/2009:  Mike, OM2DX (aka E4/OM2DX, YI9X..etc) is in Hanoi, Vietnam, working for the Embassy of the Slovak Republic and he has obtained a licence (January 5th) with call signs XV9DX and 3W1M. 08/01/2009:  Bernhard, DL2GAC will be active again as H44MS from Honiara, Solomon Islands, (OC-047) between January 8th and April 28th. He works SSB only and plans to focus especially on 40m/80m. He will be joined by the CW op Sigi/DK9FN, and the EME op Hermann/DL2NUD, by the end of February. All three of them are planning also a short trip to Temotu (H40) for two or three weeks. Their flight to Lata, the capital of Temotu, has been booked for March 2nd. Sigi will return to home on March 16th and Hermann on April 9th. [DX Newsletter]

08/01/2009:  The Provins ARC, F6KOP will be active as TS7C from the Hotel Cercina, Sidi Fredj, Ile Chergui (WLOTA LH-3459, Kerkennah Islands (AF-073), Tunisia, from January 8-18th. Planned activity will be on all HF bands, using CW, SSB, FM, and several digital modes like RTTY, PSK31, BPSK and also SSTV. The team will pay attention on 160, 80 and 40m, but all the other bands will be worked as well. They also plan to have at least six, but probably seven stations, working 24 hours a day, all with PA's into beams, verticals and wire antennas. 12/01/2009:  Andrew, G7COD will be operational for the fifth time from the Island of Embudu in the South Male Atoll (WLOTA LH-3911), Maldive Islands (AS-013), using the call 8Q7AK from January 11-27th. Using SSB and CW on the 40 to 10 meter bands including WARC, he will be operational every day from approximately 07:30 to 08:30, 09:00 to 10:30, 13:00 to 1500 and 17:30 to 18:00 UTC. 12/01/2009:  The Japy DX Group are planning an operation in Bahia (WW Loc. HH18FD), Brazil, devoted to Transatlantic Tropo Ducting events between Africa and America, following the main expedition of V5/KT6Q. QRV January 12-17th using the call sign PY6/PY2ENO on 50, 144 and 432 MHz using SSB, CW, and Digital modes (included WSJT). They will use Yaesu FT-897D and Icom IC-706MKIIG; homebrew amplifiers by PY3FF - 500W 144 MHz; Mirage B1010 100W 432 MHz; 7 elements KLM 6M 7LD horizontally polarized for 50MHz, 12 elements K1FO by PY2NI horizontally polarized for 144MHz and 22 elements K1FO by PY2NI horizontally polarized for 432MHz. 16/01/2008:  The expedition to St. Martin's Island (AS-127, WLOTA LH-2351), Bangladesh, is scheduled to take place January 16-22nd. 21/07/2009: NOTE CHANGE OF ISLAND - The same group that activated Chuginadak Island (NA-234) is now planning to activate Ogliuga Island (NA-233, Grid AO52) in the Delarof Islands Group next year between July 21 and August 3, 2009. Jeff Williams with USFWS (KL2HD) suggested to land on Ogliuga instead of Goreloi due to much better camping spot and portion of it not wilderness, so generator can be used. Call sign will be KL7RRC. 10/01/2009:  Special event station NI6IW can again be heard from the USS MIDWAY radio room on January 10, 2009 from 1700Z - 0059Z. Aircrafts from USS MIDWAY flew the initial air strikes of operation Desert Storm. This was the final combat mission for USS MIDWAY. NI6IW will be operating on the following HF bands:  SSB - 14.320 and 7.250 MHz; CW - 14.060 and 7.055 MHz; PSK31 - 7.070 - 7.080 MHz; RTTY - 7.080 and 14.080 MHz. Bob is having problems listing the counties he plans on running, so email him and he will send you a word document of his trip.   Peter, 5X4X is working as a development aid worker in Arua/Uganda until June 2009. He uses a Yaesu FT-950 (100 watts), a spiderbeam for 20m/17m/15m/12m/10m pointing to Europe mostly and a Zepp antenna for 40m. Peter complains that a pirate abuses his call sign on 40m, 80m and 160m. If you make any contacts with him in the evening hours you should be aware that the power line in Arua is cut after 2000 UTC. The QSL manager for Peter is DF5GQ. [DX Newsletter]

Award is available to all amateur radio and SWL stations that in the period from 1st January until 1st February 2009 establish certain number of QSOs with special stations from 7 cities in which will be held 21st World Handball Championship for men as follows: Zagreb, Varazdin, Osijek, Porec, Pula, Zadar and Split.

All modes of operation are allowed: CW, SSB, DIGITAL, MIX.

For the award it is necessary to work just one special station in each city on any band.
