CHINA TO HOLD FIRST 'HAMVENTION':
The WIA reports that China is set to hold its very first hamvention.
The Chinese Radio Sports Association is to hold the first ever
'Hamvention' in Southern Anhui Province at the famous tourist region
called Huangshan or in English, Yellow Mountain.
The Hamvention will span a full 5 days and cover subjects like Amateur
Radio Today in China, EME and show Amateur Radio related movies
throughout.
There will be competitions and a station operating throughout under the
call sign BY6HS.
There will be technical sessions and one of VK's IRLP Gurus, Mike
VK8ZMA, will be giving a short talk on IRLP in Australia and take
questions and answers from the guests on Australian Amateur Radio.
Mike is stationed in China in the city of Shouxian in Central Eastern
China for all of 2008 with the Australian Bureau of Meteorology on a
joint American/Chinese/Australian project operated by the Atmospheric
Radiation Monitoring unit of the US Department of Energy.
Mike has almost completed the extensive processing required to be issued
with a Chinese callsign and is planning to report to WIA National News
after the event which has attracted a lot of interest within the
relatively small Amateur Radio fraternity out of China's massive 1.3
billion population.
The Hamvention concludes with a tour of the famous Yellow Mountain on
the final day.
The Hamvention commences on Monday the 29th September and concludes on
Friday the 3rd of October 2008. [QRZ.com]

CHINESE SPACE LAUNCH:
China's Shenzhou 7 spacecraft carrying a 3-man crew lifted off today
from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center and is now in Earth orbit.
During the upcoming three-day mission, Chinese astronauts, called
taikonauts, will launch a small satellite and conduct their country's
first space walk. As they orbit Earth, Shenzhou 7 and the body of the
rocket that launched it will be visible to the naked eye from many parts
of the globe. Check the Satellite Tracker for viewing times:
http://spaceweather.com/flybys .
(Note: Frequent checks are recommended; predictions may change as the
orbit is adjusted and estimates of orbital elements improve.)
